Thought I would add some places I know of for anyone traveling through Alabama.  Around fort payne there is a few trift stores, you can find them on Google maps. They are fairly good and I have found plenty of good stuff at them, though the salvation army I haven't had as good of luck with. There is also at least one antique store near downtown.   Rainsville. There's a few trift stores here, also a consignment shop that sometimes has military stuff. A new antique store opened in the same building as one of the trift stores, I went by it a few days ago and there was a few things but not much however there is still empty room to be filled.  Also in rainsville and in Sylvania and hengar there is three trift stores called better way shoppe, these do not show on Google maps but I have found some good stuff in them. The one in rainsville is next to the Foodland grocery store.  Also in henagar is a store called the willow tree, they have a plane out front, seen a few military things there but not much.  In Collinsville there is a small trift store and down the road is Collinsville trade day, Saturday only, seen lots of good stuff there though sometimes there's not much.  In Geraldine and fyffe there is a few different stores though I have not been to most of them, check the hours before going since most are not open every day. Scottsboro has a bunch of stores but I have limited experience with them though I will say that unclaimed baggage doesn't seem like it would be great for finding stuff unless you're willing to pay full price for whatever it's worth.  Albertville and boaz have a few trift stores and consignment shops that can be worth checking, I recently found a veitnam era class b shirt at one in Albertville.  Cullman has a few trift stores and a large multi-floor antique store, though prices can be a mix there some are decent some are not so decent and some are ridiculous.  Not far away in Fort oglethorpe Georgia there is a place called the history company that seems decent though I have only been one and I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to look.  That's it for now, may add to this eventually and I know there is more flea markets around that I've never been to and I'm sure there's plenty of places I'm forgetting. Anywhere in northeast AL it's worth checking the trift stores in my experience though there are some that aren't so great.

Nice score! Yes, that was the original company patch. They were thick and well made. Done by Lion Brothers, many aircraft companies used them into the 90s.   Randy

I was in Chattanooga last spring and stopped in a few antique stores. Not much in the way of decent militaria, US or otherwise. Its a shame because it used to be really good.

Here’s a tab shown in the topic: Legion of Merit -Showcase, posted by Spartan19. Shows the award of the LOM  to Sgt. John P. Delaney wearing the 88th INF patch with a “Publuc Relations” tab above it.

There is some trift stores around, not been to a lot but there is one in hixson called bethel trift store that I got a pasgt helmet and a 1944 canteen cup at. Also I think there may be a army surplus store in red bank? Not sure as I've never been there.

Where? I occasionally make it to Chattanooga so I'm interested to know what's around.

I don't think it's U.S. maybe European? I'm not very familiar with the foreign copy's of the m1, but I'm pretty sure the U.S never used a plastic liner.
