The books are great, but they should come with a warning label: "finding the items inside can be addictive" Nice knives too! -

I was the commanding officer of the 27th Chemical Detachment from Oct 1969 to Sep 1970 and I've never seen that patch. -

I've had this and the chrome Iowa frame it came in for over 20 years. It came in a box of plates my dad gave me. I slapped it on the front of my 1966 Ford truck that was "picked" in Iowa! I like running patriotic style plates on the front. -

Or list what information you have here. I've had great luck with the search capabilities of fellow collectors who frequent this site. -

I can’t say for certain. If it was silk, then it definitely would have fallen apart by now. I’ve not seen another like it, so another reason why I think it was wartime, usually there’s always a couple post-war badges floating around. The lettering from the left, top, and right says, “ ILL - Light- Arty. The 40 Rounds and cannon barrels are soldered on. -

Thanks, EE87 and jsand. Much appreciated. So far, though, I’m not coming up with a US Navy sub with that number, other than one that sunk in the 1920’s. Apparently though the “Pride in Proficiency” motto is associated with the DDG-51 Destroyer class (Arleigh Burke-class) programs. Stay tuned! -

Dear Patches, Your answer quoted above is extremely helpful and interesting. Is there a posted thread anywhere on this forum which you can link to here explaining your sources and methods for how to conduct the research you are describing in your post? Or if not, could you possibly post them here with links? To expand on that, is there a way to decipher and research soldier's serial numbers on uniforms even if without names and use those? I think I have some WWII and later period uniforms with only numbers (with letter prefixes?) visible. If not already, of course this would be immensely helpful posted in an easy-to-find central location for newer members like me to find as a critical reference. Thanks for any additional guidance if possible please, thank you! -

Hello. I got one of these and looks to be well worn. Wish I knew who had it.
