some of the evidence suggests that he may have been a technical instructor rather than a pilot instructor.  But its not clear

Manky Bandage and Gazoo,    Thank you for the quick response.    The insignia is approximately 1 5/8 inches wide.   I have seen previous posts about the varying Meyer insignia, but from the WW1 and earlier era it seemed that the maker mark was more often raised. That said, others have noted that there was a lot of different versions of the marker mark.

Patches, Thanks for the reminder on the earlier discussion, once I reread it I remembered it.  I would be fine with an administrative combination of these two as they are of the same subject.  Today's attachment is a DCU with Commander rank, this is the only officer version I have or have seen.  I may have one more of these, if it surfaces, I will add it to the post.  Cheers Armygas

An interesting example, What is the width of this pin ? Looks like either the  crossed cannons are smaller than normal or the Winged Horseshoe is larger than normal ? I have not seen that style Horseshoe either, Center V  and wing design is different than any others I have seen, But that's not saying a lot as they don't turn up often and variations are bound to exist.    Given the size of the wing span its easy to see why its placed higher On the cannons than normal.  I dont seem to be much help at all but would suggest researching the Cannon Variation and  M.S. Meyer mark, It could hold clues to help determine if the Artillery badge could fall into the right timeframe?

I was just sent this photo of the inner helmet markings by the seller. The only thing that I can make out is what looks like an “S”, which stands for Schlueter. This company did not make M2 helmets. I am not a helmet expert though, but given the rarity of M2 helmets, I decided to approach with skepticism.   The fact that the helmet appears to have a Schlueter “S” stamp and a post war camo repaint are definitely not good signs.    The D-Bales are authentic looking to my untrained eye. Aside from the other details of the helmet, are there any feature of the D-Bales that stands out about them that would indicate that they are not original?

Hello all, I am in search of my partners grandfathers WWII D Day helmet that was posted on this site in 2017. The buyer says he sold it and no longer has it. I’d love to purchase it if it’s out there and give as a gift to my partner as he was very close with his grandfather and doesn’t have anything of his due to his dad selling it all.  I appreciate the help!    https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/298587-navy-lt-helmet-set-named-to-d-day-veteran/

WW1 Veterinary corp? Forum member Gazoo is far more knowledgeable on this, but I don't have any concerns on the originality of the insignia.
