Fantastic effort, its actually oddly got a certain charm to it that fits with the state of the knife itself. What you could do, is find yourself a smooth screwdriver handle (preferably wood), use the end of the handle and press down on the fibers of the leather. You can also run it quickly along the edges too, essentially burnishing the leather.    Maybe you'll find yourself wanting to make more leather goods, and learn a fun skill set along the way.

Ha, arrived in Normandy and met up with Ken and Mike at the Longest Yarn Exhibition in Carentan today. The day started with slight drizzle, but weather improved during the day and ended with loads of sunshine and excellent Jeeping conditions. Hadnt taken the Jeep to Normandy since 1999 and was glad to put 60 miles on it roaming the countryside around Carentan today. After dinner a friend and I had a drink at the seaside and I couldnt resist taking another photo of the Jeep in the evening Sun.

Keep them together with the box. I also got one NIW from the original seller above but it took well over a year. Happy with the knife but it was a struggle to obtain.

Hey all, got bored over the weekend and decided to make a replacement sheath for my western (which has also seen better days) I’ve never worked with leather in my whole entire life. I don’t own anything to make anything with it etc. so I just winged it. Traced the shape out and measured a little then cut it out. Glued the ends together then I measured out the holes and drilled them through. Then I used a paper clip and some “cord” to stitch it together  forcing the cord through the hole with the paper  clip then pulling it snug. Then I threw some leather conditioner on And this is how it turned out. Still need to make a button closure tab for the handle, but other than that I think it’s pretty neat and will do the job. Certainly pretty good for what I had to make it.

FYI Just purchased one of these "rare" Camillus Navy mark 2s along with the original USN marked leather sheath. I did not realize what it was until after I read this thread. I've  learned to pay attention to what is listed on e-bay, and do some resurch before you buy anything. Militariaforum is one of the most helpful sources  of information I have found. This is my first post on this forum, and I hope you old pros are still watching out there in the collector world 🌎 😀 This one will probably arrive by this Friday or so ( 6/5/26) I will update when it arrives.

Been trying to find a good "I spy..." pic out of the latest garage/estate sales and have been coming up dry. Here's one in an estate sale company's listing out of my old stomping grounds of Redding, CA. A small lot of "heavy metal".
