Hello MCDUFF,   Here is an image of another jeep being unloaded in the same manner:   Leyte Landings October 1844                                                                                                                                                  Naval History and Heritage Command https://www.history.navy.mil/our-collections/photography/numerical-list-of-images/nhhc-series/nh-series/80-G-286000/80-G-286866.html   Hopefully this image will magnify okay, but if not it can be found in high resolution at the link.   In the image, the rear lifting sling can be seen beneath the jeep frame rails.   JT

This is simply so that a thread can be backed up for future use, or if a day comes when this forum closes down.    Simply post the link here and I'll upload them into the internet archive. If it contains multiple pages let me know if you want all of them archived.    Also here's the site I'm referring to.   https://archive.org/

Aloha Felix,   In USN 'Navspeak', OP01 denotes Operations Division (OP00 is Operations Department).  This lens would have been used with a Canon Ftb or AE1 camera body for various tasks by the Operations Division aboard the MIDWAY, then forward deployed to Yokosuka Naval Station, Japan with the "Foreign Legion".     I used this type of lens and other Canon & Vivitar lenses aboard several ships during this period.   Here's a topic which includes these cameras which we used in the Vietnam & post-Vietnam (Cold War) era -->> What types of cameras were used in Vietnam?  See post #5   ...and here is another topic with a film showing a SEAWOLF debarking from a Huey aboard the USS ALBERT DAVID with one of these Canon cameras -->> USS ALBERT DAVID - Westpac/Vietnam on the Gunline

$17 is NOT a low price.  I’d say it’s about double a fair price.

It’s perfectly original.  Whilst it’s not a terrible price, you could absolutely do better.   Case in point, one available on this very forum. Word of warning, 2nd infantry division SSIs are addictive…you have been warned, I’m on my 5th 🫣

Hello everyone, I'm new here, I joined this forum just to ask for any details about this piece of US history I happen to own, that has only recently come to my attention as having been used on the CV-41 during 1981-1992. It's a Camera Lens made by Canon, as seen in the pictures, with hand engraved markings "CV-41" and "OP01" beside the more official looking "US NAVY" engraving on it. Its serial number shows as "133742", manufacturing date code is "V1010" meaning October 1981, model is Canon FD 135mm 1:2.8 .   Any hint about historical evidence that mentions this particular lens would be of great help. Thank you in advance.   Respectfully, Felix.

$17 but I could offer lower? Most I’ve seen in the high $20’s, low $30’s. eBay listing!
