Looks like a commercially-made bullet lighter:     About the size of a lipstick tube.

My grandfather served in WW II. He started and trained as a medic, finished as a Infantry Staff Sergeant.  Looking through some things my Memaw had put away from his time in the service. It's his notebook from his medical training. Every page there, intact.  First page dated 10-18-43. All his handwritten notes from training. "Blast wounds, wounds" to "spider bites" and "blood pressure". Just curious if there's a lot of this type thing out there?  I'm just amazed at this.

Robinb, I think you're right. Upon closer inspection (see pictures below), I think the mine has been chrome-plated. But why?

Thank you for your feedback on the Diamond Rangers patch.   So the patch shown is indeed from the World War II period.   There are no early production versions; they are all made of cotton using a single pattern? Only the density of the white thread varies (except for black thread if it's British or German occupation-era)?   Thank you for your input. Best regards, J0

Recently picked this up at a local Auction and am curious as to a value as it's in like new condition. Original plan was to wear it when snowblowing in winter but when I saw the condition my thoughts were possibly selling it and use that money to buy something at Goodwill for winter. I can provide other pictures if needed.
