Made sure to stop by Kaufman's Army and Navy in DC since it's been a dream destination for me. Didn't have a huge selection of what I was specifically looking for but right as I was checking out I noticed a bin of caps. Sorted through some of them and located this one. As soon as I put the name through the USMC muster rolls I just couldn't believe my luck.    This cap is named to Alvin J. Waronker. Alvin was a bandsman with the Wake Island Garrison, 1st Defense Battalion. He specifically was their bugaler and I was very lucky to find several articles which specifically mentioned him and just how beautiful of a colors performance he played right before the first wave of bombers hit Wake. He would survive as a POW in Japan and return to the U.S. in 1945. Oddly enough, he is listed as a member of the Palmyra Island Garrison in April of '43 but I believe this is a clerical error, likely in the wake of the confusion following the December attacks.    Absolutely a find of the year for me, absolutely honored to own a Wake Island piece and I cannot wait to recieve his file from the archives.

It says US.  Under that is either WOOD or WARD, under that 1964.

Hi I stumbled upon this topic by chance. I have this outfit, but I'm not sure what period it's from. The cut reminds me of a Vietnamese jungle vest, but I haven't found anything about it! Thanks

Your wash cloth appears to be civilian issue, though contrary to the previous posters wash cloths were issued to all soldiers in wwii and even today.  Navy and coast guard are white.  Army is olive drab    NothingYuk” about a washcloth unless it wasn’t cleaned

It certainly “could” have been used for that purpose, but I think it’s more of a repro aimed at the collector market.
