This is the pre-war version of the Dress Blue Uniform.   After the war, the uniform was changed.  If an officer purchased this used and wanted to wear it after the war, he would have been required to modify its appearance.   The US Army does not have a permanent General Staff Corps (prohibited by Congress). Instead, officer serve in General Staff positions (and wear General Staff collar insignia).  I was a Field Artillery officer, but wore General Staff insignia on two occasions due to my assignment (e.g., on the staff of a senior general).  LTC Craven could have been reassigned to a unit after the war began.  Since the CIB was not yet authorized in 1940, this must have been awarded after the US entered WWII.   It would be possible for a cavalry officer to earn the CIB. The cavalry divisions were dismounted during WWII and fought as infantry units.  The CIB can be earned by officers in the rank of Colonel and below for combat with the enemy after 7 December 1941.   If he was a LTC in January 1940, he had likely served during WWI (perhaps as an enlisted man), then joined the National Guard, and got promoted over the years.

Not the 1st Cav Division, but here is a cavalryman by that name.   https://historica.fandom.com/wiki/Ray_Allen_Craven Ray Allen Craven Ray Allen Craven (died January 1945) was an American soldier who served in the US Army's 124th Cavalry Regiment in the Burma campaign of World War II. He and several other Texans from the 124th were attached to the MARS Task Force during the closing months of the Pacific War, and he was killed in action during the campaign to wrest the Burma Road from Japanese control.   See also:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/124th_Cavalry_Regiment_(United_States)

Not up on prices but us mfg worth a lot more the import. Really nice us made i believe are $500 to $1000, import $350 to $600 ????   If the scabard throat has a screw to hold in place it is import. I'm a bit rusty on these so can't tell from your pic. I lean toward import.

Strange?  My dad never mentioned anything other than typical Mediterranean ports like Greece, Italy, Turkey, etc.  However, the texture (very smooth and soft/floppy texture) do lend themselves to Japan not being ruled out.  Just strange my dad never mentioned Asia as anything he had seen/visited during his time in service.   I do have a funny couple stories about the UDT time, but that is not related to the patch at all!

I have a US Purple Heart medal I acquired some years ago, to the Captain/Commander of F Troop, 10th Cav., who was wounded in the arm on August 27th, 1918 during the Battle of Nogales. In the meantime I've done research on others wounded on the Mexican Border or in Mexico itself. I have not attempted to reconcile my list with those posted earlier. Below is information about the 182 individuals (with some whose status is unclear) that I believe may have been eligible for the Purple Heart come 1932. In some instances it appears certain they indeed applied and received the medal.   The data I collected about each individual is, where it existed,  Name Name variants Mexican Service Medal # Rank Unit Home info Where Wounded When Wounded How Wounded Source Headstone Inscribed with "PH"? Interested in learning about these crates. I am looking at the hardware and the screws that were used - painted and updated later on? I only trust AI so much with these kind of things so skeptical if this is military or not. Bought for & $9 each.

The other day, I received a call from a lady, she saw my Military Items Wanted business cards in the Post Office. While talking, she said she still had her father's service rifle.  We met at her storage 20min. Only found, 2-.22s, Remington 973, Glenfields #60. Then, 2 shotguns, Springfield Arms model 1929 20ga single & a .410 Snake Charmer 2. Scary thing was, all were loaded.....good thing I checked.  That was it for weapons but the search continued,  found 3 different Hell On Wheels post war maps, showing  battles & route through Europe. Aslo  patriotic bubble glass frame showing her parents on their wedding day.  Gene glance dow & spotted a heavy-duty soft gun case,  I lifted bags of clothes off, the case was heavy Sempert & Krieghoff drilling(3 barrel 2x16ga & a 8.7mm rifle) I figured,  the drilling was the service firearm by her memory's all the years ago,  but i think it was a war trophy he brought back along with the two German bayonets posted at the beginning of this post........   This is the daughter of Raymond Robinson, the former owner of this grouping......almost 4 years after original post, I acquired more items from a separate source.  What are the odds?   She should be bringing official documents and records.  Really hopefully for bringing back paperwork.
