Hey, SonofNamVet, let me get back to you tomorrow as I have the three-volume set of “The First Infantry Division in Vietnam” on my bookshelf. I’m pretty sure that it includes some detailed information on 1st Med. My recollection is that it did “soup to nuts” of anything medical, but I’d like to confirm that. I also have the Shelby Stanton “Vietnam Order of Battle: A Complete Illustrated Reference to U.S. Army Combat and Support Forces in Vietnam 1961-1973” book and vaguely recall it had some information, too. Mañana. -

Arizona Army National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 855th Military Police Company in formation during their homecoming ceremony at Papago Park Military Reservation, Arizona, July 8, 2026. During their year-long mobilization, the Military Police personnel augmented security force operations at the installation's Ground Base Interceptor site. Courtesy photo. Note: three NCO's in the formation wear FWS-SSI from previous GWOT deployments. Would like to know if an Italian m1870 bayonet would fit on an Italian m1870/87/15 Infantry Rifle? I know they cut these bayonets down for these rifles, but would the original long version still fit it? I heard that after they sleeved it to 6.5 mm they turned downed the barrel to make it lighter, so to make the bayonet fit they bushed down the muzzle ring or just replaced with a new cross guard. Hard for me to believe that if they wanted to save money, so they just updated the old rifles instead of producing new ones, why would they go through the trouble of turning down the barrels? Any wisdom on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -

It's correct. Virtually identical to the example shown in Thillmann's book "Civil War Cavalry & Artillery Sabers". As he mentions, the Horster cavalry officer sabers, unlike most of the German imports, have a French style embellishment on the quillion. My 1840 import was also missing the wire, but I picked up tarnished brass wire from Tom Nardi's Sword Restoration for an inexpensive rewrap. Directions were included. Thillmann also says the Horster officer sabers are seldom encountered.
