Found a photo of him in the 1950s, date unknown, with the Rope he's wearing makes unit either the 1st. 2nd or 3rd Infantry Divisions.   The 50s portrait with this write up on his actions as a MACV Advisor was found on the Indiana Veterans Hall of Fame. Donald E. Bolner Major Bolner was awarded the Bronze Star Medal – with Valor Device for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force on 20 September 1964, in the Republic of Vietnam. Major Bolner, was serving as Senior Advisor, to the 1st Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Army of Vietnam, during a search and clear operation against the communist Viet Cong. As the unit approached the operational area they were suddenly attacked by a large Viet Cong force hiding in prepared positions. Disregarding his own personal safety, Major Bolner climbed to the top of his armored personnel carrier and directed fire on the enemy. His actions enabled the friendly forces to inflict heavy casualties on the Viet Cong insurgents. He repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire in order to effectively advise the friendly forces. His personal courage and devotion to duty won the respect and admiration of all with him in the actions and contributed significantly to the overall success of the operation.

The classic chocolate chip.  The only free uniform I ever got from the Marine Corps was two sets of chocolate chip BDU's before deploying to Persian Gulf.  Great uniform.  Served us well in my view.  Durable, didn't tear easily when moving around the vehicle like the green BDU USMC was selling in the late 80's early 90's.

I've never seen the liner with this night gear.  That certainly adds to it.  That type of liner keeps you warm.  I can't remember the name for it.

Wow.  Great piece of gear.  Don't know if it was effective, but looked cool.  Nice find!

Forum members, I bought at an auction what appears to be a 75mm round with WW1 French brass shell casing that I've never been able to identify.....The round itself is similar to this one that was sold on the internet and appears to have four dimples.....Mine however has only three....What are these (dimples) for?....Mine is also lacking the drive band but has grooves where one would go....The round posted below is in a 1943 M18 shell casing and called out as a Sherman or Hellcat tank round....Is it possible mine was made into some sort of training round?...Reason I ask is I have also found a US 75mm APCT round placed into a WW1 brass shell casing....Drive band has no markings whatsoever and also believe may have been made into a training round.....Found APCT w/casing at a local flea market....Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated....Bodes

Once again I have aquired several cartridge belts I can't quite identify. Both tan ones fit the disciption my guide has for an 1890s Hurlburt made belt except the belts are for 45-70 not 30 Army.   The blue one is made like a Mills belt but there are no stamping on the fittings and no stencil on the belt. The brass hooks seem to be a bit lighter weight as well.   And finally a shotgun belt but no markings anywhere. The adjustment hooks are held on by leather.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you know what group he served in, you could research their group records and see if they document him flying missions.  I don't know if the rules were the same in the 5th AF as they were in the 15th AF as far as earning Air Medals for every five missions flown.

The other 5x9.5 casket/storm flag with the riveted grommets/loops is identical to these flags, however mine has no makers or size stamps
