One is USN and one is USMC. Neither looks WW2.

I just received a grouping from a former coworker who had acquired this from the granddaughter of the veteran. He served in the Connecticut National Guard and eventually the 26th Infantry Division in the 102nd Infantry Company K.    Included in the group is a helmet with painted insignia, dogtags, yard-long photo (couldn't photograph it), WWI Victory Medal, Connecticut National Guard medal, Connecticut State WWI Victory Medal, and his Connecticut National Guard 100% Attendence merit certificate.   There are four dogtags from varying jobs/stations he had. What is the "punched" (hole) section on the veteran's medal for? What does it signify?   I was unable to locate his grave info, but it appears he was born in 1895 and passed away in 1968. Born in New Jersey, eventually moved to Connecticut. Enjoy the photos! This is the first named grouping I've ever received "out of the blue".

Depending on how old they are, some of them might still have been made by Olympic Arms around 2009. The cobalt trainers. They are  functional dummy guns and won't accept a real bolt or fire ammunition. They operate and field strip the same way. Different dimension and nothing from a real M16 would fit. The Air Force bought a large amount to use in their basic training for trainees to become used to the rifles. This was kind of big news and a little bit of a laugh amongst some of my buddies as we're both gun nuts, and live in WA, so the hometown forum on arfcom was talking about it.  There's a picture floating around from either the Air Force or maybe Oly about this contract. It's a dude holding one of these... and his zipper is clearly down.  He got a lot of smack for that on arfcom about it.  Oly's website is still up but I think they went out of business before 2020. The last thing on that website is from 2018, but I've seen one article that was last modified in 2019  that says the Air Force was going to award them a contract for the dummy M4s.

These are different hat badges. Are they USN hat badges from WWII? What is the difference between these two hat badges?

By the way the cord appears to be silver and black.  I assume for Warrant Officer.

As Mario mentioned 1733 belonged to Bieg, Frederick C., Commander, USN, died October 14, 1909.   He is listed in the Taps section of a reprint of: Historical sketch, constitution, and register of the Military order of the Carabao together with songs that have been sung at "wallows" in various places.    The book lists 1,800+ numbers in alphabetical order.   Bill
