This is a recent pickup I thought I would share. The USN engraving is partially visible on the bottom of the blade near the cross guard. The knuckle bow has the number 15 still visible. The leather scabbard is mostly intact.

Does anyone know if the Facebook group for this unit is still active? I can’t seem to find it, but I would be very interested in joining.   I have a uniform that belonged to one of the men from this unit. It was listed here on the forum before, and at the time it was thought to be connected to a tank destroyer unit. However, after finding more information about the soldier, it appears he was not actually in a tank destroyer unit.   Any help finding the Facebook group, or any additional information about the unit or the soldier, would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think dad and grandma got the memo on how to do the Victory-sign correctly 😆   Also interesting to see that road was closed for WW1-era trucks with wine/beer barrels...         🤣

+1.   I performed pre-purchase authentications on USGI 1911(A1)s for many years, and no truer words have been spoken.   In my experience, original finish and overall condition are the two biggest factors - finish first, meaning that a rough original example should always bring more than a nicer refin.   The reason that I do not generally respond to WIW questions is because I have no way of guessing what something is worth to somebody else.  These are not market-fixed commodities, like an ounce of silver, etc. If this example is worth $3000 to you, have at it.

A sailor's museum has many of Scovill's old button dies. https://www.marinersmuseum.org/2016/12/button-button-whos-got-button-die/

Kinda looks like that German aviators group that was used as a front to train pilots in Germany before WW2.
