Hi Ken,   that's a great comparison photo, it's amazing to see that the biggest change is the cobbles around the statue, the buildings are almost unchanged since 1944.

Corum with the black strap.   Illinois pocket watch.   The skeleton watch was Swiss.   And the last one is a Swiss Incabloc.

Thanks for the caution, Manayunkman. I found 3 Rikers cases, so I can keep all three together in a bigger box. Unclegrumpy, you're right about 1800s writing style.  Although it doesn't help that Robertson was a lawyer and I'm not even close to that!  I read the newspaper accounts of the stalemate.  Robertson's own accounts seem to convey a sense of humor, but I can't be sure thanks to my sketchy level of understanding.  But the humor I detected is typical of my Robertson mom and her father.   I desperately wish my mom were here!  I found the medal in her jewelry box only recently, when I was finally able to go through it without falling apart after losing her.  But anyway, it's a tremendous boost to have you guys willing to chat with me and offer your insights.  It's also helping my kids.  I can't thank you enough!   I really appreciate the link, too.  It means the world to me!!!

Laurent, Nice watch! Does it work? definitely looks like the type used during the WW1 period. Is there a makers name anywhere on it? Is there verbiage where I've circled? I think you nailed it on the identification. I know many guys who went by there middle name but signed legal documents with there legal name. Kim

Thank you for the extra information yokota57. It didn't even register with me that the skull designs were not keeping in sync with the other squadron's motifs. Honestly though, other than the wing patch I was not familiar with the fighter squadron designs. I appreciate you posting the images of lighter. Between those and a quick look at the USMP site just now, I learned something new today 😀

Is there an E in diamond on the case?   C-8259 is all we see, My understanding is  C6573 is the drawing for case and A is the alternate for an M1 Cleaning Rod Case. M1 refers to the cleaning rod case, not the cleaning rod or the firearm.   The same case was issued with various jointed cleaning rods.

C&S is C&S Tool Company Mineapolis Minnosota. This is the manufacturer listed on the package labels that I've seen.  S.A.P. may be the casting company.  That's just a guess.   I have an M8 Jointed Cleaning rod that just came out of its package. The cast handle is similar design but not the same details. The number is the same but smaller and is followed by  B147612AA-5  C&S
