Just make sure you don’t loose the case.    Often when things get separated they get separated.   Im not against the riker I use plenty myself.   i just figured the best way to preserve it was to put it away and kept safe. 

You're right, after reading Manayunkman's post, I immediately abandoned all thoughts of displaying the medal!  So yes, I'd put it in the Riker's case and keep in stored in total darkness.  But I do love the idea of the Riker's case for archival protection. Thank you for the photos!  I have a lot of family history on this man and I know his medal is valuable.  He became the Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, but there was a crazy political stalemate that resulted in a brawl, and he never got to take that office.  It was a "dark day in Indiana political history," due to the physical fighting.  I'm still reading his own accounts of it, but it's challenging because his level of literacy exceeded my own.  I have to look up definitions in every sentence.   I'm trying to find more accounts of Corbin's Creek, but no luck so far.   If I were closer to Fort Wayne, Indiana, I could learn so much more about him and see some things in their museum.   I really appreciate all your help.  I'm so glad I found this forum!!

I saw this and as I recall the description said it was a commemorative buckle so I assumed it was produced after the war. 

Bought a medics bag full, plus a few other things at a surplus store. The owner said this jacket came in with the group. They bought it all from one guy that said he was a corpsman for the Marines. Jacket is 1958 dated guy is 57 years old. My guess is he made this up with cut down marine chevrons.  Anyone ever seen this done? Thanks

Exposer to light was the problem, not the Riker style cases.  It often doesn't take much to start to fade something old...especially medal ribbons.   I think for Annie, a Riker case is still the best way to go.  That way her family and friends can look at and enjoy the medal, but it will be safe and untouched in the glass case.  I doubt she was thinking about hanging it on the wall or leaving it out all of the time....my guess it is it will be going back to whatever safe dark place she's been keeping it in.     Annie, one thing you didn't ask was value.  These medals are gold, and have something over $300 in gold in them...I don't know the exact amount, but it is in that range.     Yours being to a Medal of Honor winner, with a nice citation, adds to the value, guessing putting it somewhere around $1000...   "The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to First Lieutenant Robert Stoddart Robertson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 8 May 1864, while serving with Company K, 93d New York Infantry, in action at Corbins Bridge, Virginia. Maybe get one of the training nylon buttpacks from the 1980s. Really just missing the eyelets on the top flap. They run you about ~$60 on Ebay for mediocre condition. Not sure if thats the kind of budget range you’re in. If not, the rothco ones with innacurate fastex buckles for $38 on amazon. Just sayin’ if you haven’t gotten anything yet.
