Ironic that Robert Conrad ended up a lot like Boyington, a raging alcoholic.  Boyington recovered, but Conrad never did, he killed a man drunk driving and died in relative obscurity.  He could and should have been Hollywood royalty but no one would hire him.

Hi robinb,   What is the date / source for that image? I've seen other images of that attachment, similarly marked "CARGO." Can't remember where. Just when your post showed up, I had been looking for an edition of "Infantry" that briefly discussed early packboard cargo attachment development. I've read it a number of times, but now it seems to have vanished from Internet Archive. (Vexing.)   This is from TM 11-242,  RADIO SET  SCR - 300 - A,  February 1945:                            "... there are several specialized types of carrying attachment available for use with the packboard in addition to the regular cargo attachments."
