Young buck. I aint much older than you at all. In fact I turn 20 this year. But you need to learn a few things if your gonna survive in this hobby. Trust the older generation in this hobby. Most of them have been around longer then we have been alive. I know Mr Robert Wilson to a degree in real life along with many other men like Vince Milano and other wonderful guys in this hobby. I would not be in this hobby the way I am without there input. In fact with the ups and downs I have gone through I will say with men like them it has made it better. But again as men like them start to age out ( no offense) we need to step up and learn there ways of one seeing how much something is worth, 2 learning how beinf respectful can have you go a long way in this hobby, and 3 that we will someday be like them. I would learn to correct the attitude and learn a bit more before you go off on them or say something you will regret. I remember being your age too but I had many wonderful people to guide me such as teachers, mentors and when I started collecting men like then.    I do not wish to try and degrade, belittle, or be rude but that is just the truth in this hobby.    Best regards Maximus melton

D-Day medic because Conneaut is coming up quick and medics/aidmen are underrepresented in the hobby.

This collector certainly doesn’t appreciate “Restorations”. The most i’ve done to mine is swapped a liner or a sweatband or added a net/cover. I wouldn’t dream of stripping any of them and repainting/recorking them, let alone adding insignia and brand new parts!   I’ve got one FSFB shell that is missing one bail and the corresponding strap, and i’m in 2 minds whether or not to get it fixed. I most likely won’t though.

From Blitz..... "Militaria is not a collecting field for the faint of heart;" I will take it one step further and point out that the M1 Helmet section has  been volatile for a long time. It is one of the more contentious areas on this forum. Some people have lost big money to fakers..... People have been thrown off the forum over helmet disputes.  Some were found to be faking WW2 M1's etc etc.... People have been ripped off by fakers. People have ........ "Restored" "refurbished" added insignias etc etc all to deceive and garner a bigger dollar. To steal basically and misrepresent. I dont know of a single M1 collector that appreciates Restorations... Or restorers either for that matter. I sure dont....  And I dont understand why this post is in the whats it worth section? Cheers!

Slow down and read there Bud.. Its an I 47 and Im asking because I have no idea if its significant or rare or what....? Thats I 47.... Another member said it might be rare years ago and I finally got back to him this year with pics and Ive heard nothing. And since you are an expert I was wondering if you knew? But you have to slow down and read my question and really look at the pics. If, you are going to come on here claiming to be an expert.. Well... you best be one..  Im a semi educated step above novice M1 Helmet collector myself. Not an expert...   Thank you.   Old Geezer.

Greetings to all. I was able to win this tonight! I am its new caretaker. Its named. It comes from Illinois. I have no solid idea of the era from which it comes from? I would guess, early 1960's? Does anyone know more that they could tell me about this helmet? From the stampings inside I know its Airforce. Possibly ID the markings on the outside? I dont know who Colonel McPherson was but, he sure had a cool looking helmet! Cheers! Rooster!

"For sloppy sets to flag officers, I think an entire thread could be dedicated to that. I have seen some surprising set ups over the years in official portraits (mainly during the early cold war), although again rarely with the USMC"   I will agree with you on that, I remember a Change of command ceremony about 15 years ago, the new C.O. came up in his dress white with his ribbons pinned on across his chest with a one inch space between each, it looked like his 3 year old grandson did it. I was embarrassed for him.
