Hi Ken, this is exactly what I mean with 'automotive parts', that were made for actual use and not just to look correct. Since I was at it, I did some research on what Bosch condenser(s) would fit in a jeep distributor. Since a condenser doesn't care about voltage, the only requirements are capacity (.18 to .26 micro farad) and physical size. It turns out there are several types of Bosch condensers that fit the bill with a capacity of .21 micro farad and since these were commonly installed by Volkswagen in the 1960-70's, NOS examples are easily available. The downside is that the mounting tabs are usually different and will have be altered or replaced, which shouldn't be too hard to do. I see condensers of unknown origin and quality being offered by various jeep parts suppliers for around €8 to €10, while these Bosch condensers seem to cost around €12-€14. I have found the following Bosch condensers that should be suitable for the standard Autolite ICG-4705 and IAD-4008 distributors used by MB/GPW jeeps: Bosch 1 237 330 347 Bosch 1 237 330 316 Bosch 1 237 330 284 Bosch 1 237 330 096 All of these are 18 mm diameter × 25 mm body height and have a capacity of 0.21 micro farad. This was just an example, there are more vintage good quality condensers from other makers that will fit and reliably work just fine with jeeps. Even WW2 NOS ones can still be found but are priced a lot higher. -

Based on the service number provided, I found a 2nd Lt Sidney J Abel QMC (previously enlisted); obviously, his initials are not T.A.S. If you still want more information on him, despite the descrepency, just let me know. -

Hello, can anyone explain whether this Mitchell Cover is an Original or a Reproduction? Unfortunately, I only have these two Photos from the Seller. Based on the Contract Number 8056, it was manufactured between 1964 and 1965; I haven't researched it any further than that. Is a Mitchell Cover automatically a Reproduction if it isn't sewn together from two Pieces of fabric, or were there also original One-Piece Versions? Many thanks to the experts for their help. -

Beautiful pieces and display, but I see a problem. There are 4 holsters but only 2 pistols. -

Hi everyone, I am trying to identify a WWII Army officer based on a laundry mark and serial number found on a mint pair of early pre-war (Khaki No. 1) M1938 leggings. The inside canvas is stenciled: TAS O-1586719 Based on the laundry mark logic, his last name should definitively begin with the letter 'S', and his first and middle initials are T.A. I have checked the standard enlistment databases, but because he was a commissioned officer, his records are not showing up. If anyone has access to the digitized hardbound Official Army Registers or proprietary officer database CDs, I would be incredibly grateful if you could see if his full name and unit are listed under this serial number! Thanks in advance for the help. -

I think some people are misunderstanding my intent. The forum is called “What Is It Worth?”, and that’s exactly what I was asking. When I posted updates or new acquisitions, I wasn’t trying to prove anything, challenge anyone’s expertise, or create controversy. I was simply seeking opinions on value from people with more experience and knowledge than I have. In all honesty, I didn’t even know this forum existed until it was recommended to me by a knowledgeable individual as a good place to ask these kinds of questions. That’s why I came here. While I may not agree with every assessment, I appreciate the time and effort that many members took to share their views and expertise. I appreciate the opinions that have been offered. When it’s time to sell, the market will ultimately determine the item’s value, and we’ll all have a clearer answer. With that said, this will be my last post on the matter. Thank you to everyone who contributed their knowledge and perspective.
