Hi Ken, great find! Those markings are attributed to the USMC post war. I have seen several examples. It is possibly an 'S' under the triangle. Unfortunately I am yet to crack these codes! The 'tankers' cold weather jackets were stencilled in the same way. Cheers Graham

A gent brought in a box of his father's items Saturday...mostly ephemera, but some patches, insignia, etc. Sergeant Marion H a r t r u m served in Italy and told his son he mostly guarded Prisoners of War. He brought back this absolutely mint Luftwaffe belt buckle, three ZZ35 igniters and two ZZ42 igniters, which he called boobytrap fuses. Kind of odd things to keep, but maybe he had an unpleasant experiences with a Shuh mine or an S-mine (?). The son has more items to go through, and his dad was in the CCC and we'll be getting whatever he has from that as well.   Mark sends

Stunning unmessed with coat. I think these interwar jackets are the best looking with the material, weave, color, and cut. Amazing to see all the matching proper early original hardware as well. And matching breeches to boot!

May 8th commemorations in Carentan today.   I was meeting visiting friends in Carentan today for lunch, I arrived a little earlier around 11h00 and the ceremony of commemoration had begun, a live brass band played National anthems, I stood and watched while waiting for my Jeeping friends from the UK.  At the end of the ceremonies we sat outdoors and ate our lunch in sunshine and peaceful surroundings. .  Interesting as two of us owned Jeeps and with the other UK friend all three of us had done work in the film industry, discussion was held as to which actors it had been a joy to work with and which weren't,  also which films had been successes and which were losses and went straight to DVD.          Norman D. The Collins museum again today.   I was out and about in the Jeep this afternoon a lovely warm sunny day and it was shirt sleeves weather, I am not particularly a tee shirt fan, I called in at the Collins museum.    So checking for anything new in the sales store I spotted these ' tankers bib and brace'.  They had a subdued armoured triangle painted on either side below the zipped side pocket, below the triangle the remains of numbers but not really legible.   Also while there Philippe the owner showed me a photograph of an M31 tank in Belgium post D-Day 1944, it's similar to the tank he now has on display in the grounds of the museum.                    Norman D. Really nice all original examples in perfect condition.  Always good to see those "short" ribbon drape lengths- long ribbon lengths on the first "No." issues indicates a ribbon replacement.  Certainly not the end of the world, but being all original like these 3 is always great.

Can you provide reverse shots of the Chief Engineer  hat badge and Chief Engineer collar pins?  That may provide a clue as to originality.   If the center  of the hat badge is an original prop insignia that was added to a random wreath,  is there evidence of a pinback assembly being removed/ground off? And, are the center silver disks on the 2 collar pins identical in construction (based on a reverse view)?  

Can anyone tell me what patch the 1st Field Force wore in Vietnam in early 1966?  From what I read the I Field Force patch was not authorized until early October of 1966.  Any help appreciated.   Thanks.
