I’ve been going to Normandy in June since 1984 and in all those years I think we only had a rain free week twice or maybe three times…. The worst year was 1994 when all of the fields were turned into muddy swamps by heavy rainfall. The MVT Camp just South of Arromanches was dubbed Mud City that year and I believe your photo of the Creully field is from that year. I was supposed to camp out there with the Belgian MVT branch but when I saw the field I turned around and went looking for a dryer place. It rained just abiut every day and I recall only one dry afternoon which was spent drying clothes, gear and tents… 1994 was the last year I camped out in Normandy. Been staying at the same B&B every year since….

Good afternoon,  Yes the snaps are brass. They are tarnished on the exposed side. Here are some closeups.

. Hi tuefelhund    the group of friends I was travelling with that year we all heard about the disastrous muddy camp but fortunately we were on other camp sites and missed watching vehicles slithering and sliding across the camp ground.     Norman D. Thanks Ken for the help. I love that word bumperette, is that what it’s called in French?

.   . Hi Peiter,   reproduction rear panels are available from dealers who sell wartime Jeep spares,  I don't need the gas-can bracket you bought as this panel is the easier one that didn't use the gas-can holder. however if you had found an original ' F ' marked bumperette I am in need pop one of those.   The number I stencilled on this panel was the engine hood number on the first Jeep I bought, and it appears on this June 1943 Ford manual.       Norman D.
