Served in MIUW 103 now decommissioned. They did harbor security. We had a tracker trailer rig that had all the electronics and a radar setup that lowered when towed and raised up in use. And a Humvee that also had a radar with a microwave antenna that would send info to that trailer. And they could put sonar buoys in the bay to catch contacts in the water. I was a BM so don't know how much how all that stuff works. I just drove duce and a half trucks and setup the tents and did security and helps the CB's. These units been around since Vietnam. They can also help in beach landing we did security on Native Atlis at Camp Pendleton for a beach landing for the army in a training exercise once. I got some photos I could post of the radar set up if anyone interested.

Found this one in what might be called one of the first portable "transistor radios" by RCA. I like the fact old batteries were made differently and do not turn to leaking, chemical time-bombs in your flashlight (or anything else they are used in).    

Simply amazing the historic items like this that turn up over that many years.  Sweet find!

It's an interesting piece for sure, and I'm leaning toward it never being in a fire. I wondered if it was dug because of the dirt in the back of the shield, but that would have caused different forms of oxidation and deterioration. I metal detect on occasion and always hope to find a set of wings at the old McCook Field here in Dayton, but no luck yet. After looking at it with a loop, it has various red and white paints and lots of dirt and dust in the back. Tool box or drawer for years.  

Forgot about the 15 minute timer for a post.... so most of my input was lost (never ran into this hindrance on any other platform). Not going to try and resurrect the text so will cut it to the quick. Have one question about the fanny pack with M1942 type suspension. It appears the pack was issued and served with the Marine whose name is penned onto the tag found in the window. This system would not be compatible with the P41 gear. Only thing I can come up with is early in the Vietnam conflict, perhaps the need for a lite patrol pack was desired and US Army fanny pack filled a void... thoughts welcome and if anyone has a question, please post it here... 

Frankly I’m surprised it isn’t sold.  Yes a touch high but you’ll see 10-20 other period dolphins for every Odence.  The tiny holes in the bow wave are expected for the design.  They are hard to find when you want one.

Whwre did this helmet come from? 

Been awhile since I posted anything. I was finding very little militaria but a number of vintage airguns and other things. Was also moving out much of the surplus stuff I had been trying to get rid of for some time in the process, too.  So, will be traveling lite to the bi-annual Phoenix Militaria event next Saturday. Pictured is a mixed bag of militaria from the past six weeks, which either came from a recent estate sale or the local swapper:  

I disagree.  I think the sabers and scabbards were mated after the sabers left service.
