That is a very nice 29th ID find. I believe they landed at Omaha Beach on 6 Jun 44.   I used morning reports extensively when researching my banknotes. I had to order the MRs for Jan to May 45.   If you want help with the MRs from Jan to May 45 for the HQ Battery 111th FAB, I have access to extracts from the 29th ID MRs for that period. Just PM me the names (service numbers too, if available), and I’ll see what I info I can locate.   Again, a very nice find.

Oddly enough, I picked up an incredibly similar short snorter in a random envelope of invasion bills at the SOS this year. I guess the seller didn't look inside, because I found this signed note from guys from the 111th FA, HQ Battery inside. All signed in May of 1944 with France, June 6 written at top center. I've found most of the names but haven't been able to find the Parisians who apparently were with the unit at the time of the notes signing. There are some KIA on there and many wounded. Even a few with online interviews about their service history.

Hi King Corn Chip Who in DC did you write to to have the medal reissued? I'm trying to do the same for my father. This medal was listed on his discharge paper. Can you share info/address please? I have written to the Taiwan Consulate in Los Angeles but no response. 

Of course, we always check the pockets for any additional surprises. This surprise was a single live .38 cartridge. Maybe Chief Reid was the Barney Fife of his unit?   I've got one other grouping from a family that came in Wednesday, but I've got to restore some insignia first...and so it goes.   Mark sends
