Thanks for the touching words about my grandfather. I just saw a sweet movie called "Enchanted Cottage" which was set two months before my mom's birthday and maybe six months before my grandfather died as a chaplain. I'll check the dates. -

I've had this and the chrome Iowa frame it came in for over 20 years. It came in a box of plates my dad gave me. I slapped it on the front of my 1966 Ford truck that was "picked" in Iowa! I like running patriotic style plates on the front. -

I can’t say for certain. If it was silk, then it definitely would have fallen apart by now. I’ve not seen another like it, so another reason why I think it was wartime, usually there’s always a couple post-war badges floating around. The lettering from the left, top, and right says, “ ILL - Light- Arty. The 40 Rounds and cannon barrels are soldered on.
