"Posted August 17, 2010 Does anyone have access to the orders by which General Douglas MacArthur was granted his Combat Infantry Badge?   Or, does any one know how he got that? My understanding is that General officers were/are not eligible, and that the CIB was not awarded at a time when he would have been Colonel or below.   Trying to clear up some difference of opinion about this, so any guidance would be appreciated"   Thank you all....

I've never been able to find anything in the Congressional Record for 1946 that addresses this.  Congress went into recess in August 1946 and did not come back until January 1947.  Additionally he received the BSM that went with the CIB in 1949.

The 3"/50 on the early battleships.

Just above the driving band is the number " 25983", presumably the production number? Many interesting notes, notice the coarse lathe turning marks, not smooth as we find in modern artillery bodies. I have an early ( 1940 dated ) 155 G round, for the Long Tom I believe, it to shows fairly coarse lathe markings.    I believe this 6"/50 may even pre date WW1, as they started manufacturing the MK 20 in 1908. Fascinating only to us historical Ordnance  buffs.

Great bars, Sir! That 2-place DSC and DSM bar may be of foreign manufacture.

.... am I the only one now wondering about the B-17 crewman KIA PH/AM set?  LOL This has become a thing recently - stuff found and assumed to be priceless to some soul from whom it was taken. We all had WWII stuff in our closets as kids. It was everywhere and often in the way. Good on you for trying but it's not nearly as much of a thing as one might assume. D

Six hours. I decided the " look" was right. All loose, dusty rust dissolved. The surface were paint is not present still has that dark lightly rusted appearance. Next step: Put out in the direct, hot sun at least one day, maybe two, Make sure it is absolutely dry.   Final step will be to coat with Renaissance Wax while it is hot after sitting in the sun.   Note: according to references, these shells were painted a dark grey. This one is Black, ( denoting inert I believe), with remains of a white stripe. To my surprise, under the Black paint appears to be a dark grey color. My next challenge is to decode tge markings on tge driving band. Can anyone help? There is very little internet info on pre and WW1 Naval markings.
