I did post the USS Texas cap here https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/417171-question-about-this-cap/ it says decomm on the back. The iwo Jima cap was given to me by a veteran who said that that was the last ship he served on. Both caps say made in USA. So I don't know? I would think it was real?

Salvage Training on the USS BUCKEYE (AN-13) Pearl Harbor, 1979 First you run her aground, they you heave her off all day and all night, and THEN you set her afire FUN, FUN, FUN, no sleep, no food, nothing until the job is done   USS SAFEGUARD (ARS-25) my sister ship note the 'Beach Gear' wire ropes leading to the ELLS salvage anchors setting up a four point moor for stability prior to heaving                   Call out the 'FISH HOOKS!!!', broken wire strands that will cut right through your gloves and hands (I still have a scar on my palm, took 14 stitches to close up, four inside, 10 outside, corpsman slapped a bandage on it, wrapped it up and sent me back out to keep heaving)  Beach Gear is an all hands evolution, no one gets a pass in the Salvage Navy. She's off....now to recover our Beach Gear           Two of the Ells anchors finally back on deck, not they have to be stowed along with all the wire... Only two more to heave up out of the muck                   Did I say Fun?

That's who I was able to come up with as well, that is August Charles Hauck, but I'm curious what information Laurent is looking at and how he came up with his information, that is below:   "Based on my initial research, the owner could be Albert Charles Hauck (?), who served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the war (?). His presence in England in May 1944 and then in Cherbourg suggests he was involved in the naval logistics or operations following the DDay."   @Laurent Can you let us know how and where you came up with you information?  Thanks...

It was almost the first entry in my search as well. When I read the part about her being a corporal in the wiki I did a double take lol.

Wow, it did not take long to find her. https://www.catholicsun.org/2012/08/15/nellie-gray-86-dies-was-march-for-life-founder-and-emcee/ Looks like she was never married and survived by nieces & nephews who live in Texas. That’s how the uniform ended up in your area.
