. The Jeep as seen at the end of play today, more work to be done yet both structural and knitted coverings. We have wheels, axles, springs, seats, wheels and Tyres to do, Lyn one of the ladies did the steering wheel and column and has even done pedals she is dedicated to the project and had travelled over from the UK for the week to add the panels she had so far knitted, seen holding the steering wheel. . Some of the knitted flowers displayed The young schoolgirl presenting flowers to the soldier represents a true event, There was a medal presentation in the centre of Carentan in 1944 and the town was shelled and sadly the young flower girl was killed, the only one killed from the hundreds of troops and civilians in the town square at that time. . Official handover of the building today . We did a few hours work this morning before the Mayor and dignitaries arrived to perform the official handover of the building as a permanent residence for the eighty metres of knitted panels, with lots of further work to be done to expand the experience and history of events in Normandy in 1944. We never managed to finish the Jeep but what was there to be seen was well received and that it was a work in progress project. What must be remembered is the work of these women volunteers that didn't have a Jeep to work from while knitted the coverture panels, for them it was all done from scaled up plans from a plastic model kit. Those are both Veteran's ballcaps, the Iwo Jima patch is made in China. A period one would have the ship in a broadside view. The Texas ball cap is a veterans reunion memento, USS TEXAS (CGN-39) in commission 1977 to 1993 -

Thanks Allan much appreciated, this photo comes with a larger unattributed grouping I initially posted here: Thinking there may be a chance to ID the ship type based on the unique looking structures on the fore deck behind the group. I would imagine also a certain size of ship and up would have Gun crews? -

What a great photo! The white shoulder stripe is for unrated deck crew. The white stripe came off when they made Petty Officer 3rd Class. The Engine Room sailors who hadn't earned PO wore a red stripe on their left shoulder. The stripes correspond to the arm which a rating badge would be worn. I hope this helps. Allan
