Kathy, I'm not entirely sure of the map values but I don't think they have the value of the ETO maps. Would a mainland Japan map be worth more? Don't know but.... It is awesome you are posting about your father's service. As an AAF collector, I find it all fascinating. I've noticed a lot of your posts are in the "What's It Worth" forum. If you are interested in selling, that's fine, it's what the forum is for. If you are interested in value just out of curiosity while discovering your dad's service, that's also what the forum is for. If you are interested in value for actual insurance value, that's also fine but I will say insurance generally doesn't care too much unless you have a significant collection that has been appraised with an official evaluation. I have inquired with my company(more than once) and each item must be individually appraised($$). It isn't what we say or what eBay says, it's what the officially recognized appraised value is. Then, you would need a rider policy that insured the objects separate from everything else you have insured. Many of us have dealt with that. If I had only a single one-million-dollar ancient Chinese vase that might work well but to enumerate each item for evaluation, pay for that assessment, then for the policy, well, that is often not reasonable - even for those of us with roomfulls of the stuff. It wasn't for me. Sorry if that isn't your goal. If not, I would love to have a single thread that would highlight your father's service interspersed with pics of things he brought home. We could all comment on it in one place if that would help you more. We would all love to keep his memory alive! If not, just keep it coming and we will piece things together along the way. Just thought one thread might get you better answers. Hopefully, map collectors will weigh in. Best, Dave -

Correct, two versions exist. The type without the monogram etched into the blade is Canadian, however it also has a dark finish to it. Your example would be USMC, the etchwork long since worn away or ground off when it was reprofiled. Its still a nice piece, I certainly wouldn't mind it in my collection. Is it perfect? No, just an honest worn blade and reworked blade. -

Greetings to all fellow Forum members, I'm planning a life long dream trip to Normandy this year and will be in the area from the end of May through June 8th. I have never been to this part of France before so have hired a guide to see the US D-Day points of interest and then exploring more in-depth on my own for a number of days as well. I was wondering if anyone from the Forum will be attending this year? Also was hoping for any suggestions for "must see" places to tour, visit, (and eat!) other than the "usual" military sites. I see many events listed during the weekend festivities and was curious if anyone had recommendations for ones I should definitely attend. Are the militaria fairs are worth going to? Any decent shops? Does anyone there buy or trade? I'd greatly appreciate any and all advice or suggestions. I'm very excited and hope to make it a memorable trip! Thank you all in advance. Best, Jim -

I also read that the stilettos without the USMC stamp and no makers mark were issued to the 1st Canadian parachute battalion? Is this one of them that made its way to a Marine Raider? -

These maps belonged to my father, Robert T. Cronau, Jr. I have 11 of them as listed below. I understand that, in general, these are very common. Dad served in the CBI theater and wondered what they were worth in general and if any in the list are unusual/rare. I posted a few pics and can add specific ones if anyone is interested. One of the maps is single-sided. NL52, HARBIN, CHINA & NL53, SPASSK-DAL’NY NO. 30, SOUTH BURMA & NO. 31 NORTH BURMA NO. 34, SOUTHEAST CHINA & NO. 35, NORTHEAST CHINA C-32, FRENCH INDO CHINA & C-33, CENTRAL CHINA C-34. SOUTHEAST CHINA & C-40 LUZON ISLAND C-36, CENTRAL EAST ASIA C-41, MINDOR ISLAND & C-42, SAMAR ISLAND C-43, MINDANAO ISLAND & C-44, NORTH BORNEO C-47, SOUTH BORNEO & C-48, WEST JAVA C-52, JAPAN AND SOUTH CHINA SEAS & C-53, EAST CHINA SEA C-384, WEI RIVER & C-495, OMEI MOUNTAIN
