I understand, I guess maybe a better way to put it is I'm trying to figure out if it might have been worn on the ship or something made later like the veteran caps that are around If that makes sense. In this case I looked up the submarine and it seems that it was decommissioned in 1995 but 5.11 tactical started in 2003 so It seems it was made after the submarine was decommissioned. -

Those with a full back are considered early models, those with a hollow back are later models. Nice wing for a nice price. 👍 -

Here are a few others showing the size of the patch along with a shot of the back and without the glass cover on it. Hope you like this "one off". -

So here are some additional photos. Patch is approximately 6" tall by 4" wide as shown in the pics along with a shot of the back. It is very "flimsy/soft" which reminds me of old WWII USMC unit patches. May be US made (he was ported out of Norfolk) but I have no idea! Last pic is with no glass cover so a clearer look. Hope you like, but like I said, can't be too many like it out there! -

That looks 100% like a jolly green giant patch but when it comes to what squadron no clue. -

I ask the assistance of the awesome forum if anyone can help me identify this patch. I received it in the early 80's from my neighbor Mike Adams who flew Cobra Helicopters in VN. I'm not sure what it represents. Novelty patch or what. The patch is soft as a baby's diaper. The banner says "HERD" I thank you all in advance for any help or insight in advance. OD -

Here's one more Theater Made example, posted over on The British & Commonwealth Military Badge Forum, member is a Canadian and presumably is or was in the Army as he got it in Afghanistan, so presumably Afghanistan Made. -
