Found these pieces yesterday, Sweetheart silk item from Camp Hancock, GA and a nice WWI letter dated Dec 1917

I think the Germans lined their fuel tanks with leather to keep them from exploding when shot. I don’t think that must have worked out very well.

A good friend who flew with this group and was a cartoonist and painted many war time patches for the airmen drew this cartoon caracature of himself with one of his jacket patches. The cartoon drawing really resembles him but of course in a cartoonish way. He told me they got leather from the fuel tanks of wrecked Luftwaffe aircraft in North Africa. Just thought I would post this for you all to see.

Shiba, Thanks for posting these, I am surprised at over 200 views and no one said anything?  I think its important to understand the temperament of those who are against the actions of the military.  These buttons were the insignia of that force and worthy of note.  Although I missed Vietnam service by a few years, we could not go out in public in any type of utility uniforms, lest the natives be restless.  I just did a Vietnam Veterans remembrance display yesterday, included in my smalls or personal items was an anti-war paperback book and a Life magazine with an anti-war story.  The Vietnam Vets I have known over the years all enjoy the 'back home' items, and they usually spark some colorful comments.  I for one would be glad to see more of this genera, as your collecting permits.  Cheers, Armygas
