When I attended IMPOC (Infantry Mortar Platoon Officer's Course) in 1984 we were still using the M2 Aiming Circle to "lay in" the guns. When I attended the SFQC Weapons Course in '79, we were also taught, in addition to using the M2 Aiming Circle, how to use the M2 Engineer / Artillery Compass to do the same thing. (The M2 Compass could also be used to boresight the guns if the design-purpose boresight wasn't available.) I believe the M2 Compass was fielded in WWII. -

I wouldn’t say there is “confusion” regarding the wool patch, but there has been a debate for a long time regarding British vs German made. Sadly the Facebook group is not alway a forum for enlightened discourse. I’ve yet to see evidence for the assertion that it’s German made. It’s often taken as “conventional wisdom”, but seems baseless. On the other hand, First US Army Group patches exist with the exact same manufacturing style, and that is a patch that was only worn in the UK. So I’m in the British made camp. -

Thanks, earlymb, for that additional information. There probably aren’t too many fakers that would know about the umlaut. -

Also, 2 spelling errors in the saying 'Der Alt Jager'. It means 'The Old Hunter' in German (context??) but the correct spelling is 'Der Alte Jäger'. -

I picked this kids coat off of eBay recently. It’s made very much like an M41….sort of. I collect among other things kids stuff. Uniforms and toy guns and equipment. It was covered in patches on the front and back that went this way….that way….and every which way. I removed them. If anybody wants them all they are cheap and just send me a pm. I plan to have some epaulets sewn on the jacket and turn it into an airborne coat. I have a small kid mannequin and it will look great when it is finished.
