The rooster patch was adopted by the US Army Ambulance Service. In 1919, it was explained in the request to GHQ AEF for adoption of a patch that the the rooster was the symbol of France and appropriate for the Ambulance Service since its units were in service with French Army organizations. -

I have to disagree with a lot of the posts here. With certain items, less-than-honorable relatives scoop and sell immediately after death. While I don't think this is one of those items (not high re-sale value), it certainly happens. There's some uniforms from my grandpa that were lost many years ago that I'd like to have back. -

Here's a few uniforms I got a while back at a trift store. I actually found some papers in the pockets so I was able to look the person up. From the info I found and a comment I overheard from the people that worked there the guy who wore these died about 9 years ago. They were definitely donated by a close family member and and I'm sure they would not be interested in having them back. also look at this link to see what sometimes gets thrown in the trash. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/412680-paratrooper-uniform-items-field-jacket-jump-jacket-and-parachutes/ -

I think the unit is an MP Battalion now. It is a Connecticut National Guard unit with a history going back to the Colonial Era. It has a rather interesting and convoluted lineage like many Army National Guard organizations. -

I once had a Vietnam era Master Sgt. Special Forces Class A Green uniform complete with ribbon bars, LLDB jump wings, Master US Para wings and CIB. The uniform was laying on top if the trash can ready to be picked up by the city trash truck. I contacted the family and found out the former owner was in prison for murdering his daughter. The the word got around and "everyone" in the family wanted it back. It was public property by the fact it was on the street ready for the trash. I kept it. Should have leared my lesson, but I did it again and found out the items were stolen. Got a letter from a lawyer. Had to return it. Lost money. Lesson learned. -
