I agree with Sea girl 101 & Edelweisse. IF ... any of the family is looking for his stuff, a simple google search would bring up this topic with the USMF tag line. I had a family member reach out to me referencing a named PH I had posted here. I got their side of the story (divorce, split family, death, etc) and did a little reverse search myself and found their side of the story matched the location, the family and description of what I had from information they had provided. I sent the PH back to them, and the only thing I asked was the amount I paid for it, nothing more. I could've gotten 4x the amount I paid for the PH if I had wanted to flip it. I had no personal stake in the award was glad it went back to the relatives.   Your arty shell was a gift upon leaving that unit. A "thanks for being here".  A snap shot in time. Most of us vets have shelves of these and thats and an "I love me wall" of plaques and certificates. When I'm gone, they're just going to be "stuff" for my family to deal with. In short, if they want it, they'll find you. For now, enjoy your piece.

I agree with all the advice about not contacting the family and “trying” to reunite “stuff” to the family.  As they say..”You don’t see trailers in the back of funeral processions!”  You can’t take everything with you and after serving 20+ years in the US military…service members do accumulate a lot of gear, memories, and stuff.    It sounds nice…to try to reunite “stuff” with families..and you see those “nice feel good” articles in the news…but…in many cases…the families can’t keep everything…they have the memories in their heart and mind.   There is a lot of experience on this forum about this subject….and I would recommend you listen.  Per your listing…you are new to this forum with “4” posts….  I would recommend you attend a few “ESTATE SALES” and see the “stuff” families are getting rid of.  In the end, it’s all “STUFF”   I would recommend…waiting and praying about it.

. Hi Johan,   Ben Major who collects and writes about WWII US Army medical equipment and hospitals also has one of these, must admit as I still have several M-43 cover variants then I haven't taken any notice of shovel covers recently at shows etc.    Of course the shovel covers I hate to see at shows are the Fake - Fantasy covers that are sold for Jeep shovels, my UK jeeping friends know I hate these with a passion, and constantly mention them in messages to me to wind me up.     Norman D. I apologize for my ignorance, but would you be able to tell me why this might be?

Don't contact the family, you asking for trouble.  What a beautiful piece of history, just enjoy it.  No 192nd Arty Rgt. in Vietnam.

Thanks guys. I will consider the re-ribboning. I'll also post what I find when I do the research on Boilermaker Nelson.
