Strike`this.`I`found`it. " Description The MK 38 is a 25 mm machine gun system (MGS) installed for ship self-defense to counter Fast Attack Crafts and Fast Inshore Attack Crafts. Background The MK 38 MOD 0 25 mm MGS replaced the MK 16 20 mm gun system and was then upgraded to a MK 38 MOD 1 MGS. A total of 387 MK 38 MOD 1 MGSs were procured and deployed in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. In 2003, the CNO directed the Navy to pursue a simple, stabilized, remote controlled, low cost solution for outfitting near-term deployers to counter small boat threats. In response, the Navy began fielding the MK 38 MOD 2 MGS in 2005. Due to the success of the MK 38 MOD 2 MGS, the program scope was expanded in July 2012 to add several ship classes and to develop a modification to the system. This modification is known as the MK 38 MOD 3 MGS, which is a technical refresh of the MK 38 MOD 2 MGS. The first MK 38 MOD 3 MGS is to be fielded in FY17. As of 2018, 341 MK 38 MOD 2 and MOD 3 systems have been delivered. The total number of systems within the Program of Record is 501. Installed aboard CG, CVN, DDG, LSD, LHD, LHA, LCC, MK VI, PC, OSV, AS and USCG FRC class ships and planned for installation aboard USCG OPC and WMEC class cutters, the MK 38 MGS is a low cost, stabilized self-defense weapon system that dramatically improves ships' self-defense capabilities." -

If you ever want to try it, it might not be so conspicuous at the Hoi An (Vietnam) Lantern Festival that is held every evening. 🫣 I was there in November last year and it was an amazing sight, brightly coloured lanterns everywhere! 😊 -

. Hi BryanJ I am totally amazed at how long five years of manufacturing lasted as surplus pretty much all over the globe. It was great fun following leads and to discover stashes of it wherever. However around 1999 / 2000 I had someone phone me up and try to sell me WWII USMC camouflaged poncho's, during the conversation I asked how many he had, the reply was 2,000, I thanked him and said I didn't need any, he couldn't understand why not. I explained to him they were a limited market, I probably sold about four a year and he would be selling them to just about every dealer possible, the market would be flooded I wouldn't even then be able to sell four a year after that. Now if he had been selling M1 helmets, M41 jackets, or M42 para jackets now that would have been a different thing. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, 20 March 2O26. … -

. Hi earlymb, thanks for showing that French made one end of WWII, I never found one of these. I did however find over the years several WWI French made ones. I once found one in Jim's militaria at Plano outside Chicago, I hid it again for a collecting friend Dan in Chicago to pick it up later, I didn't tell him I hid it for him, I just told him where he would be able to find one, he thought I had some sort of mystical powers enabling me to locate things. . From my Shoebox Collection. Beautiful new Brass overcoat buttons, well in fact NO they are not, to conserve brass material these were made of brown plastic and sprayed gold to match up to the standard brass buttons previously used, before the wars end a further step to conserve materials the brown plastic buttons were used unpainted. I am sorry to say I can't show you an example of that as all of my US WWII clothing examples were all sold off over the last few years. Note the small surface I scratched on the central button to expose the brown plastic underneath. Norman D. Landing, Forum Normandy Correspondent, 20 March 2O26. …
