As cool as the trophy is,  being something of a private award, as opposed to a famous event or military type award,  keeps the value more modest.  Even though you don't want it scrapped, the higher value may be the scrap value.  But, the sterling weight is needed to confirm.   And if you sell for scrap value, that doesn't necessarily mean the buyer will scrap it - it just sets the value.  If sold as a grouping, it's far less likely the trophy would be scrapped. Those photos can add up to some substantial value. There are some great aircraft images in there.   If selling this all as a grouping, I would retain just enough of the photos that add to the story of your grandfather and the grouping. I would separate any photos that are close to redundant and consider selling them separately.   Just my opinion.......

I'd like to know a ballpark value on this dog tag. I think its WW I era, but not sure. Date info would also be interesting. Heck, I don't even know if it's authentic.  It's a found item, so has no sentimental value.

I'm hoping the forum can help to verify if this USS Amphitrite Sampson Phase II (?) Medal I recently obtained is genuine.   It seems to follow the same criteria found for the unique and irregular medal to Assistant Engineer David J. Jenkins posted by aerialbridge in this thread and others.   The medal has the unusual Cardenas July 5 engagement on the reverse of the medal as part of the casting (not engraved) on the reverse of the medal instead of a bar for that engagement. Everything looks correct from the type of clasp, the B makers mark on the obverse of the medal, even the ribbon looks original though it was either never sewn to the bar or has come sewn. The engraving looks almost identical to the Jenkins medal.    The recipient is Robert Nelson, Boilermaker, who's name is found on the Weaver, Gleim, Farak ship's roster. I haven't been able to find the date he boarded the ship yet to verify if it was after May 12.   Any insights are appreciated, thank you! Roster of the U.S.S. AMPHITRITE copy (dragged).pdf

Also it reminds me of the wwii impressions camo uniforms used in we were soldiers for the french troops. I thought those were all army pattern but possibly some p42s were mixed in.

It's from some film production. It has the perforations for squib bullet hits. Plus the size 46 in sharpie is another sign its film used. Looks to be made by wwii impressions. Not sure why no ega. Wwii impressions did make a batch of army camo uniforms for a bay of pigs production. It's not one of the SM wholesale made jackets from windtalkers, flags of our fathers, or the hbo Pacific series.

Thank you very much for the estimates. Will do more research on the trophy too. I actually found where the town where it was held, Bellaire FL, had a celebration a few years ago that mentioned the air show. It was apparently a big deal for them

The precidence set by this military campain has never been seen before. This was a 21st century Blitzkrieg on steroids. I was stunned by the complexity of the planning and the execution of the opening of this campaign. Like most of you I spend time looking in the past. Maybe to much time. I never saw this as even possible. It looks like our adversaries were just as dumbfounded as I was. The projection of military power is ment as a deterent to war. Diplomacy must always come first along with sanctions and isolation from the free world order. If that fails to correct the behavior of the beligerant nation they need to understand what the remaining options are. What the Republic of Iran has done for the last 47 years has been one violation after another violation after another violation for decade after decade.  If the President of the United States in his role of Commander and Chief calls on the Joint Chiefs to respond then they respond. They swore an Oath. Thats it, end of dicussion. What the Joint Chiefs came up with is stunning. What the rank and file has done is even more stunning. The dedication to duty of those in service is the back bone of the military. Nothing happens without them. No doubt this has been one long grind. I think this new concept of war will ushers in a renewed stability in the world. In the end that is the goal. Every country has to reassess its stratigic goals. This is a wake up for the Indo Pacific. This is a clear display of US military dominance on land, sea, air and space.
