A tac marking would not be on a flap that is intended to be unseen... -

That is a great addition to the Cronau story. Clearly not Reed and Barton wings but something else equally cool entirely. Looks all hand made from a sheet of silver. Thank you @KathyB -

WWI Nerd, That would make sense! I have a copy of the 13th's unit history and I did not even think to look there. Good eye! On the subject of the disc, I wonder if there was ever a numbered disc made for the 213th Engineers? From what I have been finding online, the 213th was formed only when the 13th Division was in July 1918. I am having a hard time finding evidence of a fully-numbered 213th disc; perhaps this might explain why our soldier only has a plain "13" disc? I also found a 213th Engineer Regiment history online: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=nyp.33433000144091&seq=63 Had a hunch this would prove to be an interesting research topic! Best Regards, -J.D. -

This split brooch does indeed appear to be one of the brooches used by Bastian Brothers on the Speanish Campaign Medals. The catch differs from the split wrap brooches used by BB&B and the US Mint on Purple Heart medals as those have a ball type catch. Allan -

That's unusual and appears to be just right for a portable shoe shine box. Pretty neat. -
