Hello everyone, I’m looking for some help valuing a unique family archive belonging to my grandfather, Virgil Redman. He was a "Mustang" officer whose career spanned from the early 1920s through WWII. I’m hoping to keep this as a complete named grouping. The archive includes: 1923 Pay Officer Certificate: Original signed document from his enlistment. USS Yorktown (CV-5) Connection: Original 1940s Christmas card and official paperwork from his time on the ship. Combat-Used Items: His Navy Officer Visor Hat and a gold-plated "Heart Shield" Bible, both showing what appear to be combat-related bloodstains. Document Folder: Full of promotion papers (to Lieutenant), DD-214s, and original 1940s portraits in uniform. Ribbon/Medal Bar: Housed in a vintage "Swank" case. I've spoken to a few high-volume dealers who weren't interested in a grouping with this much paperwork, but as his grandson, I know the Yorktown survivor history is significant. I’m looking for an honest "real-world" valuation for the complete set from the experts here who appreciate the history. I’ve attached photos of the key items below. Any insight into the rarity of CV-5 survivor items or his "Mustang" career would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! There is also more items than this, I discovered a whole box of stuff. -

Did some traveling around, stopped some familiar places, some new ones, and found quite a few more patches than usual (none). Also received a batch of Desert Storm-era novelties. Mostly went after this lot for the Imminent Thunder and B-52 wings patches. USMC plate carrier ID patch and a theater-made CENTAF variant. L to R, top to bottom: 108th ADA Brigade helmet patch, 51st Infantry Division, subdued 60s Specialist sleeve rank, 40th AAA Brigade, subdued 60s PFC sleeve rank, Ordnance School garrison cap patch, and finally some sort of E-6 Mercury project patch. -

Hey Guys, I've Posted here some years back, & just came across his Group & Notebook as I continue to go through my Groups. This below is the Document I received from Ms. Alice Juda at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. I've also included my older Post for some background on the Recipient's Service Career. I didn’t have a chance to Post some of his extensive Group, but will try to get some of it up soon. @>>>. This Guy appears to have had an interesting Naval career. He was initially scheduled to graduate with the JANE's class of 1919, but was graduated a year early from Annapolis due to our entry into WW1. ( Grad. date was forwarded to 06-06-1918 ) He served a tour in the Atlantic aboard USS Aylwin on convoy escort & anti-sub duty. Then, he was assigned to the USS Barker to assist in evacuating foreign nationals during the Russian civil war, circa 1920 - 21. ( His USNA Obituary notes he commanded a sub chaser det. in the Russian Crimean evac., but the his file papers state his duty was aboard the Barker ?? ) He did 10 years sub duty at Coco Solo, CZ, along with 3 years as C.O. of S-47. Served as Damage Control Officer aboard the Augusta in 1938, & commanded the Navy's LION 4 unit at Manus Island. Finished up with TD as C.O. of USS Dane during one of the Magic Carpet operations. There's a few assignments I can't recall off hand, but all in all a good solid career. THANKS again Guys, I appreciate the replies. Oh, I guess I should include his name, just for the record. Captain Distance Kenyon DAY, USNA Class of 1919. Born R.I. in 1897, Passed away in FL, 1977. Best, dpast32 -

I am trying to harness "Uncle Ed" to my WW1 M/1917 MG Cart. I have a poor photo of a hitch, but it is not much use. Does anyone have a source for a drawing of correct cart harness? On the plus side I have several surplus MG cart saddles if anyone needs one. The cart is all kitted out and looks pretty good. I have also included a shot of "Gen. Bell" with his 1924 Phillips Pack saddle carrying ammo. I hope he is more correctly harnessed. I was able to purchase a "bunch" of US draft harness, and I am trying to make it work. Any help would be appreciated. Illinigander -

Honestly, I wouldn't spend $300 on that, maybe $200 at best. The problem with the staples compromises the entire sheath. -

I know the airforce used tan gear but I think it was commercial and not marked. There is also the tan Saudi Arabia marked one's but those aren't marked U.S. -

Strange because the front is gilded. Led alloy cast with a gilded front…more expensive to do that than make the badge lol -
