Hey Gang! Just ran across this item on ebay, one of many that are outrageous. It is a Camillus M3 Trench Knife, "reproduction", with a price of $999. Ebay item # 397699221885. Comes with the Camillus sheath. Looking at the sellers other items, I would guess he is a pawn shop, or second hand store, with little knowledge of collectible knives. But, it totally aggravates the heck out of me to see the lack of knowledge sellers tend to have for items they offer the public. All for a buck. New collectors due your research, don't get taken. Ive read that the atomic bomb crews wore the red variable density goggles to protect their eyes from the light of the blast...... Look at what they use now for the same purpose..... That entire white piece holding the lenses is the goggle !! -

Is there a name to the. uniform or a combat patch? The uniform itself should date late 1954 to the early 1960s. Date likely in right inside pocket. The colonel was in the service during the 2 years prior to Pearl Harbor. I doubt this is his last set of ribbons as he likely received a LOM or at least a MSM at retirement. -

You are close, it is the US Navy M-592 back pad kit. What you have there is the V-44 machete, the true V-44, that was a standard component for the M-592. The machete was not issued separately. However, in the spring of 1945 when M-592 back pad kits were being disassembled for other reasons the machete was placed into stock. The scabbard is interesting, locally made and even though says 'Okinawa' could very well be post war which is my inclination.
