As a Skivvy Waver, I loved unrepping. We’d spend most of it just passing the time of day with the unrepper. Had one CO, who had a standard “Greeting” for us to transmit to the Supply ship. “When were you last in Subic and what was the Peso exchange rate?”  During the transfer, we may send some actual traffic, requesting additional items to be transferred, like the CO or XOs favorite candy. At the end of the transfer, we’d get a “Furl Transfered” message. We’d have it all filled out, it was a standard format. Just needed numbers of product transferred, to finish the message. Great times!    One time, in the Med, we operated every UnRep with the same “Oiler”. They had an all female Signal Bridge. We chit chatted for months and eventually, ended up in Corfu Greece together. My buddies and I were walking past the beach. I heard “Hay Senior Chief”!  I looked. It was the Dignal Gang from the Oiler. It was a Topless Beach!  We kept it “Professional”

Here is an original photo I own of a member of the 11th airborne wearing a swing cap. I’m not sure what regiment this guy was in. i believe the photo came from members of the 187th or 188th? Some of the other photos the seller on eBay had was of paratroopers getting ready to jump with leather football helmets on and of military band. I thought this would be interesting to add.

I have three stacked in the middle of my war room. It has jackets and hats in them and acts kinda like an island. My top one is painted with CCC stuff on it.

Capt. Case- They pull all the knuckle knives off of internet, or ebay. Try the edged weapons sales at the on this web site to get an idea. There may be one or two. Good luck! SKIP

You guys could be right, but this type of leather was originally soft...and likely did not originally have a finish on it.  100 years ago, elk or deer hide was often used.  If along the way, someone oiled or added some sort of finish or dressing, you could easily end up with wear and rot like we are seeing.     I think if we were examining this in hand, the age would be easier to judge.  That said, I am not sure why someone would go to the trouble of aging something like this to this degree.
