More Info   The Pave Cave - MH-53 PAVE LOW History In 1968, eight HH-53 B/Cs received the first of several modifications, called Limited Night Recovery System (LNRS), which incorporated a low light TV and a hover coupler. The B-model was an A-model airframe, which Sikorsky separated into three sections to add supports (struts) for the auxiliary fuel tanks. The tanks were needed to increase the range of the HH-53 for CSAR duties in Vietnam. As for your patch, I'm thinking that this is a circa mid-1970's "Jolly Green" associated unit PRIOR to installing the LNRS, i.e. a unit without the modification.   "We Did Our Best Without LNRS"   There ya go Kurt

Scratch that, found it   Jolly Green patch (unknown unit) LNRS = HH-53 Subsystems (C) Night Recovery System (NRS). The NRS, also called the Limited Night Recovery System (LNRS), or Pave Imp, was designed to recover downed airmen at night and during conditions of low visibility. The need for a -- night recovery system was first detailed in Southeast Asia Operational 37 Requirement (SEAOR) #114, dated 3 April 1967, which was later changed to Combat Required Operational Capability (CROC) 11-70.   Source:  Project CHECO Southeast Asia Report.
