They were also the holding regiment in Hawaii after the 1919 drawdown prior to the establishment of the Hawaiian Division.  One regiment of Cavalry defending the islands that were garrisoned by seven regiments. No, they're just left after the war. They are on private property and a b*tch to dig out because of the ground plate. Most are also badly bent and rusted in the ground. I'll keep my eye out for a decent one for you

17th Cav has an interesting history, formed from cadre and veteran troopers from other Cav Rgts to speed up the training and get the Rgt to the border and into Mexico but they were sent to the Arizona border to quell another uprising there. The M-1914 bando on page on page 46 of The Pursuit of Poncho Villa is also 17th Cav M Troop. The above bando has trooper 21 and the one in the book is 42. The bolo is not marked Cavalry but Inf. It's the very early Bolo I posted a few days ago that has provenance.

That is an incredible piece of history!   As for my collection, I have quite an extensive set of items from my great-grandfather, though that is all Italian equipment from his time in the elite units. However, I will make sure to post photos of the US military knives very soon!   They were given to me by my relative who collaborated with the US Navy; I’m still trying to figure out exactly what his role was, but the combat knives he left me are remarkable. Looking forward to sharing them with you all!
