Another Thompson lurking with intent. This time, amongst a grouping of New Zealand 3rd Division items, including the ultra rare ‘hand painted’ camouflage uniform used in the Solomon Islands campaign. -

It’s an American classic firearm. But we British Commonwealth were perfectly happy to appropriate it from you rebellious colonials during our darkest hour…. Lend Lease. And No, you can’t have it back…. My country (NZ) only used Thompsons (no Sten guns used at all) for our Infantry - at a ratio of 28 per Battalion. Although, in truth, we ‘borrowed’ quite a few more from inattentive US soldiers. seen here as part of a’ Commando’ grouping of iconic items. -

To add, if you have US names you can’t locate or make out, if you want, you can circle or mark them on an image, put it on here or PM it to me and I’ll see if I can locate them in the MR extracts. -

That is a very nice 29th ID find. I believe they landed at Omaha Beach on 6 Jun 44. I used morning reports extensively when researching my banknotes. I had to order the MRs for Jan to May 45. If you want help with the MRs from Jan to May 45 for the HQ Battery 111th FAB, I have access to extracts from the 29th ID MRs for that period. Just PM me the names (service numbers too, if available), and I’ll see what I info I can locate. Again, a very nice find. -

Oddly enough, I picked up an incredibly similar short snorter in a random envelope of invasion bills at the SOS this year. I guess the seller didn't look inside, because I found this signed note from guys from the 111th FA, HQ Battery inside. All signed in May of 1944 with France, June 6 written at top center. I've found most of the names but haven't been able to find the Parisians who apparently were with the unit at the time of the notes signing. There are some KIA on there and many wounded. Even a few with online interviews about their service history.
