Mine Safety Appliances ACH, the manufacture date should be on a sticker under the crown pad. MSA got the contract for this particular run of helmets in 2005. They were only produced with a grey colored shell (to match the recently adopted UCP), and issued with matching grey harness, pads, cover, and band. The correct NVG mounting plate would be the gold color model (although some of these helmets still used the previous black model).

Home from a windy, chilly and rainy Normandy to a scorching day (35°C = 95°F) at home.... Took the Jeep out and the temp gauge showed the engine was hot too when idling but held up nicely at around 195 at 30 mph

I have one that I put to use when needed… I know, the raincoat doesn’t match, but they do keep me dry.  mikie

I assume it is Japanese. With that said my daughter-in-law is Japanese. If you take a clearer photo of the writing I can ask her to translate it for you.

I've been hunting a transition era uniform and picked up this one not long ago with trousers and cap.  1946 Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot tag, gold collar discs, new Sergeant chevrons, and a round US Air Force Europe shoulder patch.
