I know I need a rucksack, but what else do I need to improve my impression? I know I need some pocket filler.

Yes.  BPCL 265-44 was signed on September 14, 1944 which replaced the block “PT” distinguishing mark with that shoulder patch.  It was for enlisted personnel regularly attached to motor torpedo boat squadrons. Enlisted personnel of the motor torpedo boat squadrons are considered to be those who have been designated as qualified to serve in motor torpedo boats and who are assigned to motor torpedo boat duty.” Personnel who were assigned to base components or tenders were not authorized to wear this insignia unless they were qualified and authorized to wear it from a previous assignment. Although you may see some examples in white with blue sewing, the white one was not an authorized version.

The pile is in my building. To many things. Found some good things. I will drag out some other women's uniforms tomorrow.

Whoa, yokota57, quite nice. Frankly, the only butane lighter I have from Vietnam came from a survival kit. But, look at you, you’ve got a whole collection there!   I’m out of likes but I’ll catch up with SonofNamVet, Oldcoolc, and you tomorrow!

Poking around the internet, I found the website for the Battleship New Jersey Museum.    https://battleshipnewjersey.org/   Among other things on the site, there is a gift shop where I couldn’t resist picking up a few things.  I have a far less than battleship sized budget so I only picked up a couple of deck plugs and a couple of bolts. I actually only ordered one plug, but they shipped me an extra freebie one. I like freebies 😁. Turnaround for my order was under a week.    Anyway, check out and enjoy the website. And stop off at the gift shop while you are there.    mikie

I have a standard dress blue WW2 era jumper with that patch on the shoulder. As far as I know they were standard for PT boat crews.

Patches,  that was exactly the man that I figured could be a good candidate for the soldier/actor  you mentioned.   If I had newspapers.com I'd do a search on him.    He seems like the most likely one.    I've no doubt as strac as he was, that the soldier from the movie has a VA headstone.

Here's rare sighting of a patch being worn, it is unfortunate that this is all I grabbed, it is a enlarged cropped photo of what seems to have been a unit group photo. would loved to have seen whole photo, maybe there would of been a guidon being held were we could ID unit. The T/Sgt wears a  Ord Collar Disc we see.
