In my platoon if you needed a field jacket then Supply would issue you one. And, even in the non-mountainous areas of Vietnam (I was in III Corps) it got cold at night, shivering cold. Especially during monsoon season when you’re always wet, just a slight drop in temperature could be hypothermia time. For most of the grunts in my platoon, however, that were ‘on the move’ on a many ‘klicks’ operation, we’d just use the poncho liner to try to stay warm. So, for me anyway, “pack light, freeze at night” was how I rolled. Meanwhile, back in the basecamp, if it got chilly then the ol’ field jacket, a poncho liner, or a tour jacket made out of a poncho liner could be used. Personally I never bothered with a field jacket, in the field or in the basecamp. Instead I just used the poncho liner. -

The tab is part of the SSI and does indicate whether or not an individual soldier is airborne qualified. Airborne units generally have a percentage of their personnel airborne qualified, not everybody. -

It doesn't look like the mounting points for the single or duel towlines for the CG-4As. -

These 2 patches seem to be from the late 1970s. What do you think?
