2LT Germain is shown on the September 1944 Muster Rolls for the Third Battalion, Eleventh Marines, First Marine Division as KIA:           He is shown as a member of Btry "H" - the "H" does not mean howitzer; it is the letter designation for a specific battery in the unit.  See other letter identifications as shown on the July Muster Roll.       Muster Rolls and excerpts from ancestry.com     Larry

That label and the zipper slider is a pot metal casting and the wrong shape.

Not really unusual. It depends on how it was stored.
