The first attached photograph is believed to be Battery E, 311th Field Artillery, 79th Division at Camp Dix taken upon return to the United States from France in 1919. The reasoning behind this is one of the soldiers in the photograph, marked Bill Bellhorn WW1, who can be seen in the second image, has been identified as Corporal William Henry Bellhorn, 1778090, born November 26th 1893, who embarked with Battery E for France aboard SS Morvada from Philadelphia on July 14th 1918 and returned to the States, leaving St. Nazaire on May 14th 1919, arriving in Brooklyn, New York, on May 28th 1919 aboard the USS Edward Luckenbach. William's person to be notified in case of emergency was his mother, Mrs Christiana Bellhorn, of Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania. The manifest for the return is stamped Camp Dix. Also telling is Overseas Stripes can be seen worn by he soldiers on a close inspection of the photograph. A number of images of Camp Dix available online also appear to match the building behind the Battery. -
