I posted my helmet at the top of this thread. At the time I posted it I everything indicated it was a ligit in country worn helmet. Proving it took a long time. I was lucky in that the information on the cover and on the helmet was intact and pointed in one direction.. A later forensic look at the cover showed bio evidence not seen by the naked eye. What was found were hand and finger smears and splatters. This was bio in nature but was not tested for blood, The helmet was stuck to the liner and against suggestions I was able to pull the two apart and and peel the cover a little bit from the lid. I found a name on green painted box tape on the lid. I understand different guys did different things in Vietnam . Their MOS would play into the ware and tear on the helmets. I have talked about my buddy Gil in other threads. He was radio operator in the field with MACV 67-68. By the end of his tour he described his cover as trashed. Busting brush tore it up. This is a link to Gill's story. He was a reporter for the L.A. Times and published these story's in the paper. The photo's were taken about two weeks before Tet. Read that story. -

That and the fact the case appears real leather makes me think it is likely WWII or a little older -

No Its up to the individual how they want to display their patches. Some collectors will leave it. I would look at finding a longer tab (measure the width of the SSI) . It can get tricky matching the SSI. Hopefully others will chime in and give their opinions. cheers Phill -

Nice one. They are somewhat rare. There is another interesting WWII KA-BAR Mark 2 variation that is marked "KA-BAR" on the blade, and "USN - USN" on the guard. -

The patch is in fantastic shape! Really the only damage is a bit to the back side of one arm of officer's braid and the fact he sweated pretty hard in it. -

From life a 6th Division cloth patch on the 1937 dated coat of 2nd Lieutenant Franklin O. Anders, an ROTC graduate serving active duty time with the 2nd Infantry in Michigan, 1936-1938.
