For an officer, it's not realistic to take apart a rearview mirror to shave. Did he lose his toiletry bag? lol Sol. -

Thanks Wailuna +++ Much appreciated. Yes I did find that record and actually used BOTH of the Photos from that wall. The Information page is posted and maintained by his NEPHEW I sent a message a month or so ago. But will not pursue any further, I have know idea what emotions these items and records can bring back to the surface so better to leave it alone. I made an attempt but wont be pursuing any further. Ken, What's funny is that I can totally picture you sitting in your jeep, in the rain, top down and sipping a cup of coffee. ...Kat -

Hi there Andersen44 Hope you didn't buy these as being worn or issued for D-Day, based on the shop being in Normandy? They are standard US made WWII era SSI ,I have seen rediculous prices of SSI from militaria sellers in Normandy, probably cheaper back in the US. As for 101st , I could be wrong but I have been told , shorter tab was used for 17th and the 101st used a longer tab matching the SSI, however since the war tabs and SSI have been put together(again I could be corrected). Below are worn insignia and the length of the tab, again these sould of been put together after the war , I have no provenance. Also look at and compare your 1st ID is a good measure to go by for being worn. If you want to go down the D-Day route provenance is the way to go and more expensive. cheers Phill -
