Very cool ! Late 50's-early 60's. The Benrus-brand flares pre-date the Mk79 flares. The earliest dated Mk79 flares I have seen were dated 1963. The BUAER mirror and PSK two-part kit were common in the late 50's as well. -

I picked up a small lot of Civil War recently and several items I’m not sure about or I don’t know what they are. First is identifying what this decoration is on the cap box and secondly what is this pouch? -

Found this several years ago at an antique store. I’ve never been able to find any pics of a similar one. Was it common for them to paint their squadron's insignia on the helmets? -

Mikie, think we all share those regrets, things we should have bought and equally things we should not have sold. -

I hate to admit it, but we made up at least a few fake graffiti ("tribute" if you will) Mitchell covers during the heated battle of the backyard circa 1982 ish... Trying to create what we saw in real VN photos. Copying phrases or artwork (poorly as we were kids, but attempted..). Back then these were a dime a dozen at surplus stores and we never thought of them as being particularly collectible or valuable. I always think of those covers we ruined as kids when I see something like this. No one trying to pass them off as original in the first place, but years down the line some of those got sold at yard sales or elsewhere. How is the unsuspecting (hopeful) collector to sort out what I did in 1980 vs what a vet did in 1970? Graffiti Mitchell covers - deep skepticism unless there is real provenance. -
