Hi Kyle,   Thank you for the thoughtful response. I completely understand your point regarding the absence of the Purple Heart medal itself and how that affects collectors who focus on complete KIA groupings.   What has always stood out to me about this archive is the amount of original material that survived with it. Beyond the medals and awards, it includes over 200 pages of primary-source documentation, original photographs, casualty correspondence, award paperwork, MACR 9778, eyewitness accounts, German reports related to the loss, and the wartime press material sent to the family.   For me, the historical value has always been in the ability to follow Lt. Andrews’ story from training through combat service and ultimately his loss in action. Whether viewed as a medal group or a research archive, I appreciate your perspective and your taking the time to comment.

If you're feeling adventurous, I've seen quite a few pictures of Marines in the '68-'69 time period, including at Tet, sporting M1945 suspenders holding up their belt. Can't tell you where they got them but it was more than one person. I imagine they were far more comfortable than the P41 suspenders. Probably traded a ROK or ARVN for it.

In my opinion the historical significance speaks for itself - Having original paper and photos is research gold if someone wanted to take that and reconstruct this man's story.    The value part is tricky with the absence of the Purple Heart.  From my perspective, it's the epicenter of a KIA group but if I was into researching his squadron/ group or was particularly enamored with his story I might overlook its absence. I personally would not pay the premium I otherwise might if it was complete, however.    Kyle
