Patches such as these continued to be made and sold to the collector market well past WW2. The embroidery was pretty much the same as the WW2 era patches, but the materials changed to synthetic. -

Bit of an update! Just received Hawryluk’s file. He initially served in the 869th EAB, then the 810th EAB, both segregated units. -

As to the boxes, Arrow manufactured all the leatherette cases until the war ended. The wooden ones seem to be thicker, although I believe both were made until the end of the war. The ones in the top row of the pic are the thicker ones. Styles of lettering, spacing between squiggled lines and both serif and non-serif are found on wooden and aluminum cases and I have yet to find any correlation to dates of manufacture. Those much more knowledgeable may know. Single Line cases are more rare but I am not sure it means they are any earlier. My single line engraved PH, boxed case is from 1943. Steve -

The Bronze Star with Silver Star ribbon was discussed at length a while back on the forum. Theories were floated , but nothing was determined. I highly doubt we will ever know the back story on it.
